I have been looking through vintage English beer recipes and have noticed an occasional reference to CDM. I'm curious if this was just a very dark caramelized sugar or if there was something more to it. I have found the advertisement attached below for this product. Anyone with knowledge on how this was made or if it is still sold?

Haha, tinctorial power. I would assume this is caramelized maltodextrin... You could try just mixing a couple cups of maltodextrin with a half cup of water, bringing to the boil, and simmering until it reaches the desired color. (No idea how this will work out, though!)

Well sounds like it'd be worth a try. Thanks for the suggestion.
