One semi-drunken bump just cost me my wireless keyboard/mouse, brand-new (yesterday) logitech speaker system, and battery backup.

Do they have insurance for stupid, drunken mistakes?

Oh man! That's de chits. I don't think even renter's insurance would cover that. My company was going to replace our couch after my three year old caught it on fire, but I didn't want to pay the $500 deductable.

Brand new speakers....man, that'll make you sick, won't it? Hey, at least it wasn't a homebrew! :D

Man that was one big beer to get all of that wet enough to ruin. Did you have it all stacked on top ov each other? Seriously, let the keyboard/mouse dry out, they may be salvagable. Same with the speakers. Not sure how you could spill that much to soak all of that stuf unless it was all plugged into the backup and you fried that frying them in turn. Either way you have my sympathy. :(

It was just one of those lucky moments I guess. Mine comes when destroying things instead of when I play the Lotto.

I'll check them out when I get home to see if they're any better. It was an excuse to upgrade anyway.

I find most items can be salvaged (as long as they don't fry) by disassembling them as much as possible and cleaning them with liberal amounts of rubbing alcohol and lots of cotton swabs/q-tips. It's worth a try at least.

you can soak things in distilled water and then let them air dry for a looong time. 100% pure water is non conductive and will leave no conductive residue behind when it dries. thus, it is an effective cleaner for elecronics. (FWIW; I am am electrical engineer.)

I did this with my laptop keyboard after spilling children's tylonol all over it about 6 months ago. I've also done it with a transitor radio that got a soda spilled onto/into it.

Sounds like he'd be better off walking down to the local college and paying an EE student to see if he can clean it and fix it. $20 and a 6er ought to do it.

Well, the keyboard and mouse work again. Some keys still like to stick though. The speakers cleaned up nicely. However, the battery backup is toast.

I think I'll douse the kb/mouse with alcohol to clean them, then see if anyone at work wants them.

You know what people will say when they discover you have a sticky keyboard and mouse, right? They might not think you were brewing, but they'll definitely think you were doing something by yourself.

You're one to talk ! Is there no end to your supply of disturbing avatars? That spaghetti monster scared me half to death ! I'll never look at Chef Boy-ar-dee the same way again.

You guys act as if the computer wasn't developed exclusively for high-speed porn downloads... Sheesh. Or can they actually do other things too?

Well..... Al Gore claims to have invented the Internet, and I've seen Tipper. I believe that you're not far off the mark. At least you were drinking good beer when you, uh..., soiled your keyboard. Yeah..... Rock on, Brother. I'll never criticize a man for something that could happen to any one of us. Not me, though. My computer is in the living room and the Kids stay up later than I do. I meant the rest of you guys. :D
