Viton o-rings inside Better-Bottles

I have bought replacement o-rings for my ported Better-Bottle, except for the Teflon encapsulated ring that goes on the adapter inside the bottle. Has anyone used a regular o-ring on the inside? Does it allow the adapter to rotate without loosening?

My guess is no but maybe with a little lube you can do it. Might be afraid of tearing the gasket when turning.
