I tried a new method for stirring my dry yeast during rehydrating. I used my wife's mixer for 30 minutes. Worked great buy I'm wondering if this is a bad idea considering its completely open to air for that entire time and possibly allowing wild bacteria to join the party.

I'm building a stir plate but don't have it finished yet.

Yeah, I would not use this method for mixing rehydrated yeast. Violently splashing in an area where there's dust, underneath a machine covered in microscopic particles of wheat flour, which is covered in lacto and brett, is a great way to contaminate your beer.

I've always have fine results just rehydrating by adding to luke-warm water, covered with plastic wrap, and leaving it for a few minutes. I think that's all you really need to do.
