Looking to brew a Robust Porter and I've had several that give me this almost tobacco/burnt flavor that I absolutely love(greenman porter out of Asheville is an example).

What malt would you recommend for this? My only guess is that black patent may be making that flavor since apparently it can create an "ashy" like flavor. But is that the same flavor I'm looking for?

Anyone have any advice??

There is a malt that has a "cigarette ashes" aroma, but for the life of me, I don't remember which one it is, so you are not crazy. ;)

I had a strange thought. Know of anybody that has tried brewing with good tobacco leaves? Not sure about ingesting nicotine.

You could email the brewery and ask them what malt they're using to get the flavor you're looking for, I'm sure they'd tell you:)
