Here is my first try at an Imperial Black Rye IPA (Black Eye Rye). Interested in what other brewers think.

Batch Size: 10.50 gal
Boil Time: 60 min
O.G. 1.087
Fermentation: Wyeast Rogue 1764 Pacman
Mash temp: 154F

24 lbs Pale Malt (2 Row)
5 lbs Rye Malt 14.2 %
2 lbs Barley, Flaked 3 5.7 %
2 lbs Caramel/Crystal Malt -120L 5.7 %
1 lbs 8.0 oz Carafa III 4.3 %
12.0 oz Black (Patent) Malt 2.1 %

4.00 oz Calypso [14.00 %] - Boil 60.0 min First Wart Hop
4.00 oz Mosaic [12.00 %] - 0 min (whirlpool 15min)
4.00 oz Mosaic [12.00 %] - Dry Hop 7.0 Days Hop 11 0.0 IBUs

Great input! I wanted a small amount of roast flavor but have no experience with Black Patent. Do you know if 2.1% BP will be to much. As for the hops that's a mistake left over from my 5 gal batch. Thanks for pointing it out. I will be using 4oz whirlpool and 4oz Dry hop

I've never used black patent either, but I have an Imperial Black Rye IPA that I have done several times using Carafa III. If I remember right, I use about the same percentage you have in your recipe and I get a slight roast character on the back end. I personally wouldn't want much more roast, so I would be careful with the black patent, if you use it at all.

Thank you for the feedback. After more research I'm going to take out the Black Patent completely.

Looking good. My only other thought is your mash temp might be a bit high. I would lean more toward 150. I even go down to 148 for the majority of my IPA's to get them to dry out nicely.

I'm purposely going a bit higher on the mash temp because I do not want to dry it it out. I'm going for 10.18-1.019 FG. But you are right 154 is a bit high. I recalculated the attenuation and will mash at 152F
