I couldn't bring myself to buy a 5000ml erlenmyer so i found a 2 gallon glass jar at wally world for 12 bucks. I get a nice dimple with 5000ml on my el cheapo diy stir plate

My bar spins fine on the lowest speed. It does have a domed bottom so no blackhole vortex but yes i can make a hell of a lager starter.

Starrider, your build used a transistor. Why not just use the potentiometer?

I checked several radio shacks and couldn't find the right sized pot so I just used the transistor instead. Of course not long after that, I was in a different radio shack and they had the pot. Oh well, it works and the parts were in the junk box so no cost.
