Hi all,

Has anyone used teak wood for their collar? Seems like the perfect wood for it other than the price.

Thanks!

I made a couple of mash paddles out of teak. Yes, it's an oily wood that seems perfect for wet locations. But the wood I used had distinct grain that wasn't very strong when bent. I snapped one of them in half. It wasn't the best choice for a paddle.

I think it's overkill for a collar. I built my collar with that plastic lumber (different names for it). It's made from recycled plastic. That was overkill too I think. Looking back, I should have just gotten 2x6 or 2x8. You need to insulate the inside anyway, so the wood won't see too much moisture.
