So I have one of those stick on carboy thermometers on my glass carboy... I had it in a swamp cooler for a week and a half, but the thermometer was never "submerged" but may have been wet from the t-shirt pulling up liquid. It worked fine the whole time it was in the swamp cooler. On bottling day, I noticed all the numbers were white/gray. This didn't change. Has anyone ever had this occur?

I know it was only $3.00 but this seems odd to me...

$3? I would replace that thermometer with a more reliable unit. I paid $12 for a 12" unit that hasn't let me down for 8+ years.

Nothing less than 12" satisfies me.

Er, what?

The stickon that came with my kit failed from the first time I used it (I think I submerged it) so I've never trusted it.

I never 'trust' the stickon thermometers anyways, I only use them for generalized, relative temps. When the temp falls by 4 degrees, I know the fermentation is winding down.
