I use an app called Brew Log on iPhone. Admittedly, I should use BeerSmith..but I don't. Regardless, when starting a recipe there's a "Steep Extract Efficiency" section which has always been set at 50%.
I do extracts with steeped grains for aroma & color (not partial mash).
When I enter my malt build, it gives me options for Mash/Steep/Extract.
I place my Crystal 40 under the "steep" option. It effects my ABV & I imagine it shouldn't be.
So now I'm curious, if I'm not steeping for mash...should I be setting that efficiency to 0%?
If that's the case, every brew I've ever done has had off stats..
