So the Army moved me to upstate NY, to be a part of wonderful Fort Drum. I don't exactly relish the situation. Primarily because I'm invested in a 100 different out door hobbies and this place is under several feet of snow and sub freezing temperatures for the better part of a year. One thing was for certain though, I was determined to brew a beer, using only snow, as the source of water. So on December 14, I began.
I decided to brew an ESB, merely because I felt it was time for one. I brewed one just short of two years prior based off of someone's 10 gallon recipe that I found here, unfortunately I bumped the tap after it was kegged, loosening it, causing it to leak out slowly overnight. This attempt was kegged on Jan 4 and took a bit to mature. Now as we approach April, it's tasting crisp and dry, and just feels right. There's still snow on the ground here, but nothing I would dare brew with. Next year, I believe I'll make 10 gallons.
8.75lb pale 2-row
.5lb Crystal 20
2oz Willamette 60 min
.5oz Willamette 30 min
.5oz Willamette 1 min
Mash at 154
Safale S-04
