I had never used S-04 before for some reason...I know it says extremely high flocculation and that it forms a compact sediment, but this last batch was the first time I literally had to scrape the sediment off the bottom of the fermenter. It was literally like putty and came out in one bucket-shaped glob. I don't know that this yeast could be successfully washed as it didn't budge when I dumped the beer that was left in the fermenter.

I just found it odd as I've never experienced this before.

I hade the same type of experience last month with an S-23 yeast cake. Not completely solid like yours, but it was a persist 1.5" layer that required a high pressure hose to remove.

You didn't use gelitine to clear the beer did you :D
