I tried finding if this had been posted. Perhaps I didn't read far enough.
No matter, I shall ask.
I have wired in solid rubber bungs into my gallon jugs in hopes that I will be able to allow this part of my batch to age a year or so.
My question is , should I be using rubber bungs?

Should be fine. Why are they wired though, and not simply airlocked? I'd be afraid of a change in barometric pressure or a weather change and no place for the gas to expel causing a broken jug.

Thank you for the reply.

I bottled and corked the rest of my wine.
Is using a rubber bung and then wiring it so it stays in place not the same as using a cork?

Corks breath, rubber bungs dont.

You are lucky, could have been a gallon mess had the wine restarted fermentation with a wired in solid bung.

OK, understand thank you.
I am just trying to determine the differences between a rubber bung and a screw on cap which I had not mentioned because I cannot get screw on caps to fit my old fashioned jugs.
The newer jugs have different threads.

Is there a danger of a jug exploding after a period of time with a screw on cap?
