Corn dogs. Not the crappy ones you buy at the grocery freezer section. Carny corn dogs! The ones fresh dipped and fried in something terribly unhealthy at the county fair, or in my memory the fall festival in the small hometown Central Park.

^^^That is a traditional part of our Christmas Day "spread." Can't imagine Christmas Day without those little thingies!

When I was a kid, my parents would sometimes fry up a bunch of Little Smokies (cocktail weenies) in a pan and serve them for breakfast. Yum.

I remember the "Little Smokies" having a bigger brother, same tasty goodness, but the size of regular pork sausage links. I haven't seen those in a long time.

I remember we'd get those little glasses of shrimp cocktail at the store & save the glasses to use for morning juice. I've always loved shrimp cocktail, it makes me happy.

I remember my dad's fav coffeepot, it looked like this:

I can remember my grandmother ironing with one of these:

I remember standing in my uncle's livingroom, waiting for the cuckoo clock to strike & watch the cuckoo pop out (I was 4).
Regards, GF.

Holy Cow! I had forgotten about the little glass shrimp cocktails! I remember my Dad loading them with hot sauce and sharing with us kids, that might be why I like hot sauces so much! We also used the glasses for juice or milk.
My mom used to colect the S&H Green Stamps every time she was shopping and us kids would stick them in the books for her!

I had an uncle that returned from Germany with one of those fancy cuckoo clocks, we used to do the same thing, watch for the cuckoo!

I love this thread. I was born at the ass end of the 70s. I'm surprised no one mentioned these:

I remember using bbs in the pre-internet days. I loved the text game LegendOftheRedDragon. I also loved the pirate software and porno bbs's. Once you found one bbs, you downloaded the directory for all the other local ones.

I walked the 1/2 mile to and from school as a 1st grader. All of the neighborhood kids did.

I remember commenting that the one I had was made of steel when those came out.

Shmoo tabs is what we always called them. Before that you needed to carry a can opener with you to open your beer! lol

I remember the super modified guys complaining about those pull tabs getting stuck in their slicks when they were still hot pulling back into the pits at the local speedways. And I don't mean the gas stations. We used to make chains & vests out of them.

I rocked that big wheel! Wore that shirt and Toughskins doing it.

Remember getting free drinking glasses (with a fill up) from the service stations? Or there was a brand of laundry soap that put a free glass in the box.
How about Brooks catsup? http://www.catsupbottle.com/archive/1961/pix/1970label.jpg

Or the Brooks catsup water tower?

I have 8 glasses that my Grandmother saved from Bonded Oil way back when. They are the Famous Ohio Indian Collection. I guess there was a pitcher that was supposed to go with them for an Iced Tea set but I don't have the pitcher. The glasses are 16oz. I think I am going to keep them for my bar once I get set up in Arizona later this year.
My Mother used to save certain jelly glasses with a pop off top and they made nice little juice glasses because it was just a bead rim and not threaded like ball jars.

I remember when Slurpees were new. You could only get them at 7-11 & they only had Coke & cherry. You'd save the plastic cup & eventually it would melt in the dishwasher.

I remember going to the drive-in movie theater, sitting in the back of the truck, watching the movie with a blanket over our laps. We'd bring our own snacks & drinks in one of those cheap, squeaky styrofoam coolers.

I remember my sister making those braided chains out of gum wrappers.

Oh Yeah, the gum wrapper chains and pull tab chains. I had a buddy in junior high, his sister made one of those doorway chain hanging things for her room out of pull tabs from soda cans.

Remember these, made from beer cans (do they still make them):

I received my master's degree in 1980, but "commencement" was scheduled during my vacation time in northern Wisconsin. Somewhere I have a photo of me in my graduation "garb"....wearing a beer can hat, holding a martini in one hand and a big cigar in the other! If I ever run across that photo, I'll scan it and post it.

Loved zork. I had my maps for every direction from a room including the one cyclops ran out of making a new door when you said Odysseus.

Almost Famous Brewing Company

I remember as a kid traveling with my folks to visit relatives in the far reaches of Michigan's Upper Peninsula and passing motels and overnight cabins to rent that proudly displayed on the motel sign, "HOT WATER".
Many years later the boast became "HBO" ... But back in the day it was the plumbing at motels that was the star.

I remember those sea monkeys, it was quite a let-down to discover they were actually brine shrimp. It was fun watching them getting eaten by the fish in the aquarium though.
Remember the "Creepy Crawlers" toy?
http://www.vintagetoysillustrated.c...EATURING_CREEPY_CRAWLERS_SET_4477_BOX_LID.JPG
I never had one, but always thought it would be a cool thing to have. Which reminds me of those little rubber monsters made to go on your pencil eraser.

I remember playing with those toy parachute things for hours, the ones with a little plastic paratrooper or a silly looking spaceman as a weight & a clear plastic parachute. They could be had for a quarter & you'd roll up the parachute & throw it as high as you could; as it fell the 'chute would open & it would drift down to the ground.

When they broke beyond all repair, and they always did eventually, or we couldn't get to the store, we'd make our own out of plastic bags from the dry cleaners or even a bandanna, some string & a couple of steel washers.
Regards, GF.

We always threw them off the roof. We also tried jumping off the roof with one in each hand but that didn't work so well....

I used to rock these Z Cavaricci all the time!!!

and I would have my hair like this too!!

Sea Monkeys, yes. I liked them, but it was kind of a let down to know they were just shrimp.

Parachuter, yes. Eventually we just dropped the parachute part and tied a couple of heavy nuts to a string and twirled it around and let it fly. They would fly a LONG ways!
Sometimes even on top of the neighbor's roof! We also stripped the eyes off of old fishing poles and jammed green tomatoes down onto it and flung them things as far as possible. Then moved onto riper veggies until it was a contest to see how rotten a tomato could be before it would not fling. Those suckers would sail!

I should gather some scrap wood this summer and build a trebuchet...
