Ranco in mash measuring low - suggestions?

You use a Ranco on your mashtun? I have the same thermowells in my mash and HLT, but for whatever reason the mash is measuring 6-8 degrees low while the same Ranco in the HLT is spot on. Wondering if you have experience with it and any tricks.
