I'll shortly be receiving my new kettles, and I'm in the process of designing a single tier stand. As it is currently, I'd end up with a 12" square under each kettle, and plan on using a 12" round wind screen. The square is front to back, so no angled pieces as seen on a lot of the Brutus style. This leaves a decent gap in each corner and the kettle rests on the stand front, back and each side "rail".
My question is, is this going to choke the flame out? I'm trying to decide if I should drop the back rail and vent out of the back. I don't really want to do this, but it's not the end of the world I guess (don't want any open tubing, so I'd have to cut/weld end caps). I can leave a decent gap between top of wind screen and bottom of kettle, should vent out of the corners I'm thinking?
