How much priming sugar do I add in a 5 gallon batch before bottling?

I have brewed a cream ale and a stout. For both I added 3/4 cup of priming sugar to the bottling bucket prior to bottling. It's been several weeks now and they are still flat. Did I not use enough?
 
Have you tried various bottles? What temp have they been stored at? 5 oz should be plenty for a 5 gallon batch.
 
I actually used two different types of the plastic beer bottles. They are stored at 70 degrees.
