I'm in the process of setting up a 40 gal. conical for single barrel fermentations. I've located the thermowell mid level (approx 15 gal. mark) and for the sample port/product drain port I'm considering installing the bulkhead fitting at approximately the 1-2 gallon mark with an internal extension reaching above the height of the level the yeast/ trub settles at. This would seem easier attaching a 45* fitting and extending with a nipple rather than guess the correct height of drilling the thru-hole.
Does this seem like a reasonable plan?
