Is it ok to use 5 gallon plastic carboys that spring water comes in. These are used for water coolers. They have the handle molded into them and are tinted blue?

Ive considered this myself and would assume so considering they are food grade and dont cost much (hell, you could use the water to brew and the vessel to ferment for under $12). I guess the main problem would be cleaning the handle portion after fermentation. Of course it you used them for a secondary this might not be such a issue.

No just because they put water in it doesn't mean its safe to make beer. Check the recycle number, if it's anything other than a 1 or 2 definitely don't use it.

there is a thread on here somewhere that talks about that. Basically the plastic is not cut out to withstand alcohol. Plus better bottles are only a little more, the water jugs generally carry a 7 dollar deposit.
