I've got a Pilsener recipe that calls for 4 oz of Saaz. I only have 3, but have another oz of Hallertau Mit. If I substitute this for the 4th oz, would it be best to be an earlier or laterer addition to the boil?

Both noble hops and very similar in flavor and alpha. Maybe a little more fruity and less spicey but at a 3 to1 ratio i doubt it will have much noticeable difference. As discussed above, putting it in early least impact on flavor. Consider adding it late though good chance to change your recipe and see how you like it compared to previous/ next versions. Either way you will not be disappointed. With these two hops you won't screw it up.

And for a very late addition, swap it out by weight 1:1. With such a small delta in AA% and with a very short time in the boil, it'll make barely any difference in IBUs.
