- Cirtus with earth and clean toasted malt background.
A year ago I decided to spent a few bucks on some 4oz hop packs from Farmhouse. Blaa blaa blaa, I had leftover hop packs I needed to get rid of so I made an impromptu IPA from what was around and ended up with a staple for my IPA malt bill. Here's what I came up with.
10 lbs Pale Malt (2 Row) US (2.0 SRM) Grain 1 71.4 %
2 lbs GoldPils Vienna (3.5 SRM) Grain 2 14.3 %
1 lbs Munich Malt (9.0 SRM) Grain 3 7.1 %
6.0 oz Cara-Pils/Dextrine (2.0 SRM) Grain 4 2.7 %
6.0 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt - 40L (40.0 SRM) Grain 5 2.7 %
4.0 oz Caramel/Crystal Malt - 20L (20.0 SRM) Grain 6 1.8 %
1.00 oz Nugget [13.00 %] - First Wort 90.0 min Hop 7 43.6 IBUs
1.00 Items Whirlfloc Tablet (Boil 15.0 mins) Fining 8 -
0.25 tsp Yeast Nutrient (Boil 15.0 mins) Other 9 -
1.00 oz Apollo [17.70 %] - Boil 5.0 min Hop 10 10.1 IBUs
1.00 oz Merkur (Hallertauer Merkur) [12.40 %] - Hop 11 7.0 IBUs
1.00 oz Apollo [17.70 %] - Boil 1.0 min Hop 12 2.2 IBUs
1.00 oz Merkur (Hallertauer Merkur) [12.40 %] - Hop 13 1.5 IBUs
2.0 pkg Safale American (DCL/Fermentis #US-05) Yeast 14 -
2.00 oz Apollo [17.70 %] - Dry Hop 3.0 Days Hop 15 0.0 IBUs
2.00 oz Merkur (Hallertauer Merkur) [12.40 %] - Hop 16 0.0 IBUs
Yes, I brewed this. Yes, it's freaking delicious ( I'm drinking my third glass from the keg atm). It's honestly the best of all worlds. Dank earthy citrus, resinous, sticky hop character. Malt profile backs up the hops with a slightly sweet flavor but ends in a toasty clean/balanced flavor. Yeah, so, not too bad for a freezer cleaner beer.
