So i have been reading alot of threads on here about cider. I have never made any before but would like to make a batch for the upcoming fall/holiday season. Should i just grab a recipe from someone on here? Buy a book? Does anyone have a good plain hard apple cider recipe for me to do my first batch? I will prolly buy a book about cider anyway though. thanks in advance brohams! :mug:

Simply get pure Apple Juice (without preservatives - although if it has only had Ascorbic Acid added it's okay) from the supermarket/local orchard, Check the OG (apple juice is usually around 1.048 ish - add a little water or sugar to get the ABV you prefer) add a neutral ale yeast and ferment away. Easy simple cider. Be aware though that it does take a lot longer than beer to mature. Most people drink it too young and never make another having been put off by how it tastes. Think months not weeks for maturity. Do try it but remember it needs time!

my current batch is about as simple as it can get . . .

5 gallons of apple juice (got 10 1/2 gallon jugs at the store for $10)
1 pack of British Ale yeast

  • Sanatize the carboy, funnel, outside of bottles, and ooutside of yeast package (I'm paranoid)
  • Pour in juice
  • add yeast
  • shake like a mother f'er
  • come back in 1 month rack to a secondary
  • come back in another month or 2 and bottle
  • let condition until spring
