I am trying to decide between the 15g and 10g version. I typically do 6 gallon batches with 5.5g going into fermentor. I do like the option of 10-12 gallon batches, but wonder if there are drawback doing 6g batches in 15g kettle. I had two questions 1) I have the normal bayou classic sp10 burner http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000291GBQ/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20, is this enough to boil the bigger size batches. And 2) Am I going to loose a lot of wort to dead space when doing 6g batches. Just wanted to get an idea of what to expect if I go up in volume.
I have the 15g and do both 5 & 10 gallon batches. The burner is enough to boil the 12.5ish gallon for a 10 gallon batch. The dead space below the ball valve is about 1 gallon. I have been tipping the kettle to make up for it until I can get a proper draw tube.
Get the 15, I have no issues doing 5 gallon batches in the kettle and you'll have room for larger batches.
