I decided it was time for a stirplate given the number of starters I make. Thinking it will pay for itself soon. This is what I came up with.
I used this fan:

These magnets:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001KV38ES/?tag=skimlinks_replacement-20
(watch the price, it changes constantly. There are lots of others, but 1/2" x 1/8" worked well.)
I J-B Welded them on like this. The tape and cardboard was to keep then from smacking together, and hold position.
I didn't want to build a case yet, so I just flipped a glass casserole dish over the top, and set a glass jug on top.
The vortex is just for show. I can get to about mid speed before it throws the bar, partly due to the curve of gallon jugs. The lowest speed works fine.
anyway, just posting another combo that worked. Seems to work best with the magnets about an inch from the bar.
