Can anyone tell me if either of the motors would work for a grain mill? I've got a cereal killer that I'd love to motorize.

Thanks!

Do you plan to reduce RPMs with a gearbox, or use belt and pulleys? The spa motor, at 3450, would need a big ratio to slow down to ~200 RPM. The Genteq would require much lower ratio, say 5:1 or so, and 1/3 HP should be adequate power.

I drive my Monster Mill with a 1/4 HP 1725 RPM and about 10:1 using belt/pulleys. Never had a power problem, even with hard grains like wheat.

Either one will work. However, grain dust will get into those vent holes. I found a good half horse for 30 bucks, free shipping, on eBay. No holes in the case to collect a very fine and flammable dust.

Thank you both. I planned on belts and pulleys, so perhaps the spa motor is out.

Hadn't thought of the holes/dust. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll keep looking.

Yep, although my version is less refined. I welded a threaded pipe fitting to the end of the drive shaft instead of the hose. I use a 25amp power supply from my ham radio. Wall wort not up to the task... I've been using it about 2 years.

Thanks. I may go that route if I can find a good power supply option. I've got a couple old desktop PCs in my basement waiting to be cannibalized. Perhaps there's something useful in there.

Here's how I did it. Function before style, as they say.
