minimum wash for a still

I've got a 9 gallon still I'm setting up for doing 5 gallon batches. That says anyone know what's the minimum amount of wash I need to properly use the still?

i shoot for 5 gallons of 16% in a ~7 gallon pot.....fills up a carlo rossi bottle perfectly....

At a minimum, I'd say you could test with a gallon so long as you don't let it run dry. How are you heating it?
