So after reading through Bobby's mash tun thread I have just a couple questions.

1. For batch sparging grain bed thickness is not really an issue?

2. If number one is true than it would be better to go slightly larger so that I can use the same tun for 10 gallon batches of what would be considered big beers.

3. Assuming both of those are correct. Since I am new to all grain I imagine no better than 70% efficiency is to be expected until I am familiar with my equipment so a 13 gallon or 52 quart cooler at 70% would give me a max og of 1.153 and 1.077 for 5 and 10 gallon batches. At 80% 1.177 and 1.088

So is a 13 gallon cooler a good option for what I am looking to do? I may move up to 10 gallon eventually but I hope by then my efficiency will by in the upper 70s. At the same time I don't want it to be to large for 5 gallon batches although I don't care for much but bigger beers.

Thanks
~Danny

72qt extream cooler. I have found that around 32lbs grain maxes it out. eff drops with anything more..
