Hey all. Just wanted to share this recipe and experience with you.

Back in January my family went on a ski trip to June Lake in central CA. While there I enjoyed a pitcher of Mammoths "Nut Brown Ale". Oh man, it was so good. So I have wanted to get around to brewing a clone of it. So the other day after I had been searching the web for a recipe(with no success), I thought why not call the brewery. So I did.

The guy that answered the phone(don't remember his name-sorry) said "Gotta pen?"

He proceded to give me the grain bill. It is as follows:

78% ESB Malt
11% Dark Munich Malt
5.5% Brown Malt
5.5% Chocolate Malt

I am going to mash at 150* for 60 min

Miliinium hops @75 min for 20 IBUs
Tetanger hops at end of boil to total 25 IBUs

He was unable to help me with the yeast due to it being a propitiatory strain.
I am going to make a 10 Gal batch tomorrow and spilt it. 5 gal with WLP005 and 5 gal with WLP007.

This was the best brown I have ever had. Thanks Mammoth!!!

For what its worth, I converted this recipe to extract for someone else who emailed that place (thread here) and the recipe was exactly the same. So these brewers are pretty cool about sharing their info with homebrewing. Nice!
