malt storage question

I'm looking into buying my grain in bulk and cant really find anything on how long it will keep. I'm assuming along time if kept in air tight storage? Any insight would be great

A long time! I use plastic totes as grain bins and I can easily keep grain a year or more. It needs to be cool and dry, though. Last summer we had a very wet year, and I had a grainbag get mold on it and ruin 55 pounds of grain!

Cool and dry and and unmilled is good. Bob Hanson from Briess Malting (on a Beersmith podcast) said that over long periods of time the enzymes present in the malt can become denatured... he might have been referring to high-humidity storage (like basements). Give that podcast a listen.
