I am fortunate to live an hour and a half from Makers Mark among many other distilleries. This past Friday I was leading a group of Corvettes to Makers (I work for the National Corvette Museum), and saw that they sell charred French oak staves in their store. The staves they sell have been used in the aging process for the Makers 46, and are awesome smelling!

I am thinking about cutting these down from the 3 ft staves into thirds and then soaking them in more Makers. Then putting them into a fermenter.

Thoughts?

Porter, Stout, Barleywine... my favorite oaked styles. It certainly wont take 3 ft of stave to do a 5 gallon batch, thats for sure

Is that in Kentucky? My sister lives in Louisville, I'm gonna have to see if she can get one for me next time she's coming to visit.
