Less water???

Ok so I am new at brewing. I am on my 3 batch.

As per most recipes I have seen, starting with 2 to 2.5 gallons to make my wort then adding water to the fermentation bucket bring it to 5. Anyone know what happens if I only filled it to 4 gallons? Thanks

Your original gravity will be about 20% higher.
You will still have beer, but a bit higher in alcohol than what the recipe states.
Not sure about the flavor or body, though.

You will have a higher concentration of sugars and therefore, your OG will be higher, as well as your ABV%.

You also end up with a gallon less beer.
