I'm getting towards the end of first stage of my first lager! Yay!

The question i have is if you need to transfer into a secondary after the d rest for the lagering period. Or can i leave it on the yeast cake until i keg it?

I would say most people probably just do the D rest, slowly or abruptly drop the temp to 32F (whatever floats your boat), and then keg directly from primary. Then force carb and lager in the keg as normal. If you don't have an extra keg, you could lager in primary or transfer to secondary. I wouldn't let set on the Yeast more than 8 weeks though.

You certainly don't need to transfer to secondary (unless you are planning a very long lagering period).

A keg is a secondary. I rack to a keg purge out the air with CO2 and let it cold condition as long as possible. The hardest part is the long as possible.
