My hops came up late this year, and I was a little worried about the neighborhood lady bug population. The lady bugs were out in force in April, but there wasn't much food for them, as my hops and brassicas hadn't really grown large enough to attract aphids.

But today, happily, I found two lady bugs patrolling my hop plants, happily munching away on the occasional aphid. Two means hopefully eggs and larvae coming soon. My hops aren't severely stressed by aphids at all yet, but they do have the occasional aphid starting to make a home. It feels good to know these beneficial insects are eating them even before they start to become a problem.
