So I just planted my first rhizome today. I know I know, you're supposed to do it in March/April, but growing my hops never crossed my mind until last week and I was able to find a rhizome through a homebrew store.

Given I just planted them (I live in eastern PA), what do you think I can expect this season? Even if I get like 4oz I would be happy since I planted it so late. Am I SOL or is there hope for some flowers by September? Thanks a lot.

4 oz may be a lot to expect for a first year rhizome. I only got a little over an once after I dried them.

Hey better late than never! I doubt you will have flowers by Sept. If we have an Indian summer you might be in luck in October. But honestly I would just let the roots and crown grow this season and not worry about any cones this year. You should have a nice harvest next year.

Yeah Brother take what you can get. We just brewed a "NE 15-20, Voyage-Strength IPA" with my Bro's Illinois homegrown. Homegrown hops in Key West, that's a treat!

I planted four rhizomes in early April, have about 100 combined feet of growth, but I'm not expecting anything great this year...probably wouldn't even try to brew with them if I ended up with a harvest...I hear they don't taste/smell very "hoppy" the first year anyway.
