I'm trying to take a gravity reading from the mash right out of the mash tun to check my mash efficiency using an efficiency calculator. Trouble is, after I mixed all the mashed wort together in a brewpot and pulled out 1/2 gal in a pitcher to drop my hydrometer into, the mash was over 150 F, and still is. How do I make the temp calculation for this? All of the temp converters only go up to 120F.

I'll draw off a bit into a stainless steel bowl. A little swirling and it cools fairly quickly. Doesn't take a half gallon to fill a hydrometer sample container.

I fill plastic cups after each lauter and for pre-boil. I place them in the fridge during the boil, and check the gravity once they've cooled to an acceptable level. I then add them back to the boil before it is finished.
