Hi guys,

This should be an easy question for any AGBers out there: to achieve 1.050 OG, how many KG of grains are needed, assuming that I'm getting a fairly efficient mash/sparge working?

Just wondering, as I'm starting my first AGB next month :ban:, roughly how many kg's of grains I should plan for on my first beer?

Appreciate any help.

Thanks Brooksy, an over simplified answer is what I was looking for :) and thanks for the great link!

If you were looking to calculate it yourself, a fast and dirty way of doing things is;

vol L x OG = total sugar
total sugar x 1.25 (80% efficiency compensation) = total desired sugar
total desired sugar \ 300 (rounded sugar extract of grain) = total kg of grain needed

If you'd like explanations or further info on the calcs, I wrote a topic on it ages ago here; https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f36/recipe-formulation-basic-ag-process-122249/

'Hope that helps!
