I was wondering because I am CRAZY impatient! I had a batch going for about a week, but then I disturbed it and it doesn't seem to be growing anymore (day 9). Should I just buy one online?

I have read that they can take up to 30 days to grow from scratch.

If you disturb a scoby as it is forming it will likely sink and then a new one tends to start on the top of the kombucha. From a starter of liquid they tend to take 20-30 days if left undisturbed and in a cool, dark spot. If you are desperate you can ask an existing kombucha maker for a scoby and cover the shipping---most kombucha users have containers full of them.
