hop ball

I just used a hop ball to make a batch. There was just one ounce of pellets in it. After I was done the hops seemed pretty compressed. Does anyone have experience with one of these? Is it just easier and better to use a grain bag? I just want to make sure I'm getting everything out of my hops.

I use one. I don't know if it helps out hurts utilization but it keeps all the gunk out which is nice.
