I have seen people say they have made this before but I can't find any of the posts - what is in yeast nutrient and how can I make it at home? I have an old 5-gram packet of Cooper's yeast I can boil to make sure it's dead, but what else, and how much? How much of this would I use for a 2.5-gallon batch of cider?

Any and all help is appreciated!

Whenever I make cider, I never use nutrient. I rehydrate a packet of notty or s04 and pitch. That said, if you are more comfortable adding nutrient, I would just boil the whole packet of old yeast. Most people use bread yeast, as it is way cheaper to do so. I have also heard of adding a handful of sliced prunes adds nutrients.

The particular recipe I am following uses nutrient (as well as champagne yeast), so I figured I would as well.

:)
