High reading

Hi guys.. just on my 3rd brew ever but it's the second time I have a reading of 1.51... ??? Hard to predict the abv... Is it that IAM not putting enough water in my batch?

What was the OG supposed to be?

What’s your volume into the fermenter?

What was your recipe?

You’ll want to read the bottom of the meniscus, not the top. Looks like 1.057. Hopefully that’s a starting gravity in which case you did an outstanding job.

The larger numbers on your hydrometer are in 0.010 SG increments, see the .100 and .150 lower down. So when you read 50, it is 1.050, not 1.50. 1.051, or 1.057 as pondjt explains, is a pretty decent and standard gravity. RDWHAHB
