I made this a few weeks ago, mostly because I found the name amusing, but also because I wanted to see what a light oat beer was like. I made it after the style of a wheat beer, but with oats.
5 gal AG
1.052 OG, 16.5 IBUs
7# 2-row
2# Flaked oats
0.75# Biscuit malt
Mash @ 152 F
1 oz. Hallertau (4.8 AA%) @ 60 min
S-04
Water corrected for style per Bru'n Water
Due to me still figuring out the various factors of BIAB (*cough* excuses *cough*), I only hit 1.046 OG. Wound up with a FG of 1.015.
Anyway, I put it to 2.8 volumes of CO2, and it's pretty good. Has wonderful head retention and lacing from the large percentage of oats, and smells vaguely of both oats and wheat; that not-malt breadiness. Still, it's a little boring. It'd be delicious on a blazing hot day, but I'm looking for just a little more character.
Would you sub out the Biscuit for something like Vienna, or even Munich, or just up the % of Biscuit?
