Hey guys. I was hoping someone could help me with my keggle build. I've read a few threads about removing the keg spear and cutting the top. All of the pictures of the kegs that I've seen look different than the keg I'm attempting to cut.

Anyway, I can't figure out how to remove the spear from the center. It appears as though the previous owner already removed the ball from the center, so I don't think it's still pressurized.

If I can't get the spear out, can I still cut the top anyway? Here are some pictures:

This is the keg I'm working with

This is what I've seen other people working with

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Looks like it needs to be twisted to align the key in the spear to the keg and then lift it out. If you are worried about pressure I'd just drill a hole in the top, then start cutting. It's not like you are saving the top anyway.

I got the spear taken out and the top cut. It wasn't very difficult. I also used the piece I cut out of the top to make a lid. Here are some pics.

I still need to put some washers on the lid, but that won't be difficult.

Now all that's left is installing a ball valve.
