Hi everyone!
I'm brewing since 2008 and I've found your community just a few months ago. I must to say that my beers quality has changed dramatically since I met this community.
I have no more questions without instant answer - thanks for it!!!
Cheers!

I see you import your beer from the US and Germany, are there no good breweries in Hungary besides a couple of brewpubs? I had also never heard the term "ruin pub", it seems to be mostly a matter of decorations.

These beers are brewed in Hungary in 12-15 craft breweries, mostly in the capital. In Central and Eastern Europe ales were literally unknowns until the last few years. So the beer market is full of core lagers made by multinational corporations such InBew, Brau Union (Heineken), SABMiller and so on. Craft brewers have only 0,5% of the market and the majority of their sellings are also lager beers. So if you want to drink a good pint you have to make it for yourself and by yourself if you don't live in the capital.
It's funny, but homebrewers here like me are generally reading German or English sources and following these homebrewing styles. Just like me, being a huge fan of american style I brew mostly APAs, IPAs.
Ruin pub is a very bad translation of the Hungarian word romkocsma, but you're not too far to understand the conception :)

I have to say...your english is pretty well!!

Ermm i mean good! lol

I have to say WELCOME to our community!
Enjoy your stay and if you have any questions you can use the drop down menu on the top left corner.
If you cant find it in there then dont be afraid to start a new thread!

Cheers buddy and enjoy!

Hey! I am 1/4 Hungarian! awesome :mug: glad to meet you good sir! and welcome!

I just got done with an internship in Pécs. Perhaps we may have seen each other at Művész Presszó!

Greetings and welcome aboard.

This was quite timely for me. I'm currently on a 3 month assignment working in Gyongos, but spending the weekends in Budapest. I discovered Legenda last month and love their beers and have been frequenting their pub. But tonight I'll be hunting out some of the others in the blog post you linked to.

I'll be heading back to the US for the holidays, but I'll return here in January. If there's something beer related I can bring back for you, let me know. I live close to Northern Brewer's Milwaukee store (www.northernbrewer.com). If so, personal message me. I do plan to bring back some US craft beers if I can find some folks to share them with.

Hi all, I'm from Brazil and moved to Budapest 3 months ago. I started to brew last year and had this oportunity to move to Budapest.
Is there any homebrewers around? Feel free to get in contact, will be a pleasure change experiences.
Cheers.

Hi,
there are many homebrewers in Budapest and we are numerous in the Southern-Transdanubian region also. If you plan to visit Pécs, just drop me a line a few days before and we show you our little community brewhouse or just share our ideas and have a pint in the local taproom!

Worked with an intern from your town in Liechtenstein back in 1996. Spent 3 days with his family in Pec's then 3 days on my own in Budapest.

Hungary was the first country in Europe to truly surprise me. Not what I was expecting at all.

Welcome to the hobby, and the group, from Colorado :mug:

I visited Budapest 15 years ago or so, wonderful city, hope to return someday for a more intensive tour. Incredible history.

Thanks for your message Kresi. I'm willing to the homebrewer's community here!
do you know if there a good Brew shop here , or everything must be imported?
Cheers!

Some mandatory links:

Bottleshops:

http://www.csakajosor.hu/index.php?route=information/contact
(it should be mandatory to visit this shop for every homebrewer and micro/nano brewer in the country and sample about 20-30 different bottles until they get what ales are about)

Homebrewshops:
http://olaszsped.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2
http://www.beerodalom.hu/
(you can brew most of the popular recipes on this site from using the first link, they dont have liquid yeast though)
If you need more esoteric hops and/or liquid yeast then there is this Polish shop, they ship to Hungary:
