I had gotten a new kettle and went over to a buddy's house to brew. I left my burner at home as he had one. However, we didn't realize his burner wasn't in the best of shapes. The end result was my new kettle getting pretty smutted. This is the bottom after trying to clean it with soap and water:

I read over the forums with everyone talking about Bar Keepers Friend, and ordered it. I couldn't be happier:

Yeah, that stuff is great. It also helps passivate the SS on your kettle to prevent rust (yes, SS can rust). I use it for our pots and pans too when they need a good scrubbing.

You should get in the habit of washing with BKF every 6 months or so, it keeps a nice protective layer going, which can make future cleaning easier.

Agreed! Barkeeper's Friend is the best for SS. It is also very cheap, which is an added benefit.

I had a burner that would do that a while ago, Barkeeper's Friend took it off every single time. I have since gotten a new burner, but keep the BF around just in case.
