Owned by a San Antonio based family owned private company, brewed in Texas... Sounds Texan to me.

Shiner is good for what it is. It's macro-beer, based on production volume, but most of their beers are pretty tasty.

Perhaps a bit of an inside joke, it is owned by the Gambrinus Company, the importer of Corona prior to takeover by Constellation (IIRC).

Just wanted to add in information that is new to me, Carlos Alvarez (founder/owner of Gambrinus) became an American citizen in 2001. So there goes my misguided Mexican beer joke. That said I do love Negro Modelo, it was the first beer I tried and genuinely enjoyed.

Was at a sports bar with a buddy of mine and asked for their beer selection. The waiter mentioned they had "a lager," to which I asked, "Oh, what lager?" His response was, "You know, just a regular lager."

.......

Now mind you, I'm from PA and about 35 mins from the Yeungling Brewery, but c'mon...

I catch so much crap from my dad and Uncle since I got them really into craft beer from my brewing. They think its hilarious that my initials are BMC. I shouldve never explained that acronym to them. Or SWMBO so someone else...

The word "lager" in PA is universally understood to mean Yeungling. I'm from AL and I know that. And I think it's ridiculous.

When I mentioned to a new guy at work that I homebrewed, he told me that he used to own, "the largest microbrewery in the country." Since though that description sounded like "worlds tallest midget", I took it with a grain of salt.

Later when I brewed my first batch after getting a stir plate, I mentioned how quickly my fermentation had gotten underway. He asked me, "Did you rehydrate the yeast in a bowl of warm water first?" I couldn't help but think that he must have meant that he owned a microbakery.

Just ask him the name of his microbrewery.

Wait...this is a stupid question perhaps, but what's wrong with that? You are supposed to rehydrate dry yeast before pitching, aren't you?

Obviously if you're making a starter that's kind of a moot point, but I don't see why it's a strange question otherwise.

I've always pitched dry yeast onto the foam that comes from splash aerating, and let it sit there instead of stirring it in.

No problems so far.

I was also confused by that statement. I always rehydrate my dry yeast in a bowl of warm water. The manufacturers strongly recommend that you do, in fact. Supposedly you can lose up to half your cell count by pitching dry.

Exactly. Pepsi is never okay.

And here, all this time, I thought that was a middle-age thing!? And a pain killer?...idk, try having osteoarthritis. Doesn't work all that well. Good for sleep, though, but I suspect the alcohol content has a lot to do with that as well? And drinking beer in general makes one want to bleed the lizard more often. But it never stopped me from, shall we say, performing like an anxious buck during the rut?!!

I have found that in my advancing age that a few too many IPA's, chased with a few too many whiskeys has me no longer performing like the man I once was.
but it was probably because it is late, I have had a long day and I was just really tired!

I've still managed to perform, even during those conditions. My specialist once told me, " it's as much between the eyes as between the thighs!". He was a young Indian fella, so I guess he understands the zen aspects?

Yep, I just saw that pop up on Facebook earlier and died a little inside. I haven't had the beer yet. I saw it on the shelf and was tempted, but I didn't know anyone who had it yet. After some reviews from people I hear it's a bad version of Listermann's Nutcase, and I don't think that's good either.

Regardless...people pulling beer off the shelf, because it offends people is dumb.

I was at Buffalo Wild Wings on Wednesday. I noticed that Bud Light Lime was listed as Exotic/Specialty on the menu. I laughed about that one. Not too exotic or special, in my opinion! ...Just wrong.
