I was making my starter last night and something funky happened. I shook up (like always) my tube of WL London Ale yeast, opened it up and half of it spewed out.

This has never happened to me before so I am a little confused. Perhaps there was active fermentation going on in the tube before I opened it. I don't know.

Any takers?

I pitched the remaining yeast and hoped for the best. The airlock was rockin once every ten seconds this morning and there is a bit of cake at the bottom of the starter. I guess I am in good shape.

It has happened to me every single time I've shaken a vial of yeast. I learned the hard way to let it rest for a minute and then open it very slowly. The first time, every single bit of yeast spewed out of the vial and all over the kitchen so I had to use dry yeast.
