I'm very new to mead making so I don't know what smells are off and what are normal. When I racked my mead into the secondary fermenter (which I fear I did too soon) The yeast and mead had a funky, fruity smell and taste. It reminded me of over-ripe bananas (though not quite a banana smell). The thing is I have not added any fruit.

Any re-assurance or advice would be appreciated. :)

Leave it alone for a few months, then re taste. A few of my brews have tasted vile at first( most notably the one that smelled/ tasted like vomit), but after a couple months they are completely different. The one I would have sworn someone puked in is now fruity, pleasantly aromatic and delicious.
