We were making a 5-gal batch of Shining Star Pale Ale from Northern Brew that we reformulated into "Siamese Surprise" - a pale ale with Thai chili peppers and fresh ginger.

Unfortunately, the crush on the grain, 2nd in a row from NB, was NFG (have a pic around here somewhere), so our efficiency was in the toilet, about 54%... similar problem with the Bourbon Barrel Porter a week before...

Back to MoreBeer for the next coupla kits, and a grain mill is on the wish list for Xmas!

Make sure you contact NB about the crush. They need to know when something like that happens so they can correct it and "maybe" give you a refund or replacement. A big store like that has a special duty to crush grain to a reasonable standard.

That said, you will LOVE crushing your own grain and buying bulk to save $$ too.

Sure will do - it was in fact another partner in the batch who put that order in, so he'll be the one who needs to follow up. Unfortunately, not only were both AG kits apparently under-crushed, they also forgot to include the oak chips for the porter (shipped later)...
