I am getting into using camlocks. I bought an F style camlock to screw into my stainless ball valve. Is Teflon tape needed when screwing the f cam into the ball valve? Can't find the info on bargain fittings.

Use more than 3 turns of tape, unless you have the really thick (Chinese) variety. 5-6 is usually needed.

This is true for taper threads, not for straight threads as on tube fittings.

Are you referring to compression fittings, like a locking nut on a straight shaft? They don't need it, because the seal is created on the ferrule, flare, or gasket.

That's what I was referring to. Taper threads seal on the thread. Compression fittings use straight threads and don't seal with the thread so they don't need the teflon tape.
