Hey all, had been reading through several posts on the forums lately after seeing the George Washington Molasses beer thread, as well as the Hard water and Grocery store threads awhile back and had a crazy idea for an experimental beer.

I'm planning on making two different "beers" with no malted grain, grains used for flavour and body, and the alcohol being provided by additional sugars, using ester producing yeasts.

The grains I am thinking of using are what's known as Sweetfeed or COB mix, and for those who aren't in the know, is a 30/30/30/10 mix of Rolled Corn, Oats, Barley and Molasses.

Grains and additives will added to the kettle holding 2/3 the final volume of cold water, and raised to boiling for a quick 3-5 minute boil to sterilise the grains (sterilisation should occur pretty boil, but by the time it is boiling it should be sterilised and the heat source removed)and add a little bit of bittering hops. This will be cooled with added water to pitching temp and then dumped all into a bucket fermenter and fermented.

Recipie 1 - Fake white IPA
4# sweetfeed
4# sugar
1/3 Oz amarillo at 150f
1/4oz mosaic at 150f
2 Oz amarillo dry hop
1oz el dorado dry hop
Mangrove Jack M21

Recipie 2 - Fake "washington-esque" porter
4# sweetfeed
1#oats
8oz molasses
4# sugar
1oz bittering hops (still undecided, though thinking Fuggles or BB)
Imperial yeasts "Tartan"

Anyone ever consider doing something like this or have any input/ideas?
